The story

A left-arm orthodox spinner who represented Hyderabad in India's Vijay Merchant Trophy before making his mark in the United States, Avik has his sights set on the USA national team and the LA 2028 Olympics.

Watching the 2015 Cricket World Cup lit the spark for Avik, and he started playing the following year.

His proudest moment came in 2022, when he was selected to represent Hyderabad in India's Vijay Merchant Trophy.

The hardest part of his journey was the move from India's cricket environment to the United States. He has adapted quickly, playing in the USA U19 Conference, Minor League Cricket, the Houston Open and the Atlanta Open, and being named Best Bowler in the Northern California Cricket Association's A Division. His best figures are 5/6.

Cricket in the USA is still building: facilities and grounds are limited, though they are improving, and the gap between what the game pays and the cost of living means most players also have to work outside cricket.

Avik's goals are the USA national team and the LA 2028 Olympics. He plays by the line he lives by: “A coward dies a thousand deaths, a soldier dies just once.”
